It was a fun-filled 4th this year. The girls were decked out in red, white and blue and spent the afternoon with Mommy while Daddy went to work for a few hours.

I got this great shot of the girls in the backyard - all looking at the camera and smiling - even Paige! This may never happen again. If only the girls' hair weren't tangly messes and the background was scenic instead of brightly colored plastic toys! |
Later that day, it was an NNHS reunion! With Fred and Jess in town from Boston, we planned a little get-together 4th of July BBQ at our place. Richard and Bonnie came in from the city and even Al Hwang and his family made the trip from Sacramento for a reunion of the Naperville Chinese contingency. I remember when we were kids about Gwen's age and our parents used to get together for parties. And here we are, some 30 years later getting together, this time as the parents. Very weird! In my memories, the parents were so grown up and old! After setting off fireworks in our court, Adam took the older girls to the Moraga Commons for the annual fireworks show. Meanwhile, just as our parents would stay up late playing mahjong, the rest of us stayed up late playing board games. Some things never change.
